Chapter 7: Sensors

7.1 LiDAR Scanning

By connecting a YDLidar LiDAR sensor, the robot can scan the surrounding environment and display it on the screen in real time.

Required accessory: YDLidar LiDAR sensor (sold separately), connected via a C-to-C (USB-C to USB-C) cable.

Steps:

  1. Connect the LiDAR to the USB-C port on the underside of the robot's head using a C-to-C (USB-C to USB-C) cable

  2. Connect Bluetooth first, then enter 「🎮 Demos」 → 「Radar」

Demos menu: enter "Radar"

  1. Wait a few seconds; the LiDAR starts rotating and the scanning interface appears on the screen

LiDAR scanning interface: point count and range at the top, concentric rings as distance markers

  1. Interface description: - The status bar at the top shows: point count (Points), range (Range: 5.0m), and connection status (Lidar connected) - The center of the screen shows the robot's current position - Concentric ring scales indicate distance markers (1m-5m) - Crosshair lines provide an orientation reference - The rotating ray indicates the current scanning angle - The point cloud (projection of each scan point) is drawn on the screen in real time - Two buttons are provided at the bottom: "Exit" and "Link"

  2. Distance color mapping: - Red: close objects (approx. 0-1 m) - Yellow: medium-distance objects (approx. 1-3 m) - Green: distant objects (approx. 3 m and beyond)

  3. The LiDAR provides 360° all-around scanning, with an effective range of approx. 0.05 m to 5 m

  4. Press C to exit and return to the Demos menu

💡 The LiDAR needs to rotate for a few revolutions before a complete environment outline appears; please be patient on first use.
