Assembly Guide
This guide describes the recommended assembly order for RIG-Hover. Add photos, exploded views, and wiring diagrams for a final public kit release.
Tools
- Precision screwdriver set
- Tweezers
- Deburring tool or small file
- Multimeter
- USB-C data cable
- Kapton tape or electrical tape
Printed Part Preparation
- Remove supports from all printed parts.
- Clean screw holes, cable grooves, and snap areas.
- Test-fit the left and right motor connectors.
- Test-fit the EM3 servo mount.
- Test-fit the battery shell, side plates, and U-shaped decoration rings.
- Check the wheel shells for rubbing or oval deformation.
Recommended Assembly Order
- Mount the two FOC hub motors to the motor connector parts.
- Install the wheel shells and confirm free rotation.
- Assemble the low-CG base and battery fixing structure.
- Fix the main control board.
- Route left and right motor cables away from wheel motion.
- Install the battery without squeezing the cell.
- Install the speaker and route audio wires.
- Insert and lock the display FPC.
- Insert and lock the camera FPC.
- Install the EM3 head servo and connect the servo cable.
- Install the head shell, display cover, and camera cover.
- Install side plates and U-shaped decoration rings.
- Apply silicone pads.
- Run the pre-power checklist before switching on.
Cable Checks
- Display FPC: verify contact direction, insert fully, then lock.
- Camera FPC: verify contact direction and avoid reverse insertion.
- Motor cables: left and right motors must match board labels.
- Servo cable: verify power, ground, and signal order.
- Battery cable: verify polarity before power-on.
- Cable routing: no cable should enter the wheel envelope.
Screw Notes
Motor screw length is critical. Screws that are too long can touch or damage the motor internals.
Position | Recommended screw |
Motor mount | Flat head M2.5 x 4 x 5 |
Body shell | M2 x 6 or M2 x 4, depending on hole depth |
Small covers | M1.6 x 4 |
Final Pre-Power Checklist
- Both wheels rotate freely.
- The body is roughly vertical when held upright.
- The head has no shell interference through its range.
- No cable is close to the wheels.
- Main board and battery are fixed.
- Screws are not loose.
- Battery has no swelling, puncture, or wire damage.
- The robot is held by hand before the power switch is turned on.
