Where is the open-source Puppy firmware?

RIG-Puppy is the product and robot form documented here. Puppy firmware lives in the RIG series development repository LuwuDynamics/rig_omni. Select BOARD_TYPE_PUPPYin Kconfig to build Puppy firmware.

How do I provision Wi-Fi?

Current RIG-Puppy units use the "小路同学" mini app for provisioning and activation. Follow the screen QR code and app prompts.

The screen does not show the "小路同学" QR code.

Update firmware through https://tools.luwudynamics.aior contact official support to confirm the firmware version.

The robot reboots when moving forward.

The common cause is low battery or insufficient instantaneous current. Charge the battery first, then reduce motion amplitude or avoid high-frequency motion testing.

Servos twitch or do not respond.

Check servo cables, servo IDs, battery level, and bus wiring. Puppy uses UART bus servos, so one loose cable may affect downstream servos.

The screen is white, distorted, or blank.

Power off and reinsert the display FPC cable. Check contact direction, insertion depth, and connector lock. Puppy firmware uses a GC9A01 round LCD reference.

The camera does not work.

Power off and check FPC direction and insertion depth. Puppy firmware can support GC0308/OV2640; actual hardware depends on the kit.

The robot posture is crooked.

Recalibrate and check left/right leg parts, servo IDs, and installation angles. Recalibration is recommended after leg or waist disassembly.

Can I use common PWM servos?

No direct replacement is recommended. Puppy firmware uses UART / XGO protocol bus servos.

What build versions are required?

The development repository that contains Puppy firmware requires ESP-IDF v5.5.2+ and Python 3.8+.

What is the firmware license?

The development repository that contains Puppy firmware is licensed under Apache License, Version 2.0.

Battery maintenance

For long-term storage, keep the battery at about 50%. Avoid overcharge, over-discharge, high temperature, swollen cells, and damaged wiring.
